Exploring LiDAR Returns

Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) instruments have proven valuable for mapping.  Through LiDAR returns, we are able to generate high resolution digital elevation models, estimates of tree canopy density and 3D modeling of buildings.  LiDAR data are available for many parts of the US, through the USGS EarthExplorer website.  A demonstration of LiDAR uses is shown in the image below, developed for a study of the Madison Recreation Complex, in Madison, New Jersey.
