Selection within larger data sets is a valuable application when working in GIS software. Take for example the detailed Armed Conflict Location & Events Data (ACLED) Project. I was able to query data in ArcGIS Pro to explore conflict events in Somalia that were described as Riots or Protests, in 2018, and display the event locations based on the actors involved. A map image of this information is below.

I was also able to conduct a similar query mostly through the ACLED website, and then display the output of that query in ArcGIS.com. An example of my online webmap, with the pop-up boxes configured is shown below.
The following examples show protests in Albania: 2018-2019, obtained from ACLED on May 28, 2019.
